Introduction : Chocolate Way in Alsace
As a long-standing industrial sugar producing region, Alsace has developed chocolate production making it France’s leading regional chocolate exporter. The proximity with Switzerland where COBA was founded, which for many years was the only confectionery school in the world, may have contributed to the development of talented chocolate makers.
Even if today there are only around forty traditional chocolate makers, numerous pastry and chocolate confectioners raise this number even higher in Alsace. Needless to say that infatuation for the profession has grown even bigger.
On the 3rd of May 2007, this attraction for chocolate added to the appeal of consumers is the origin of the creation of the Road of Chocolate and Sweetness in Alsace.
More than just a promotional tool for tourism, this new road has already seduced around 50 professionals. They are listed in “Gourmet Passports” and flyers for those who can welcome visitors. It is the perfect opportunity for chocolate makers and lovers to show their know-how and showcase regional specialities.
This already existing road in Alsace will help the Chocolate Way development and its extension to France.
